Elijah & Elisha
Sometimes people believe the Bible is boring. I wonder if they have read the accounts of Elijah & Elisha? Elijah as God’s prophet stopped the rain for several years, lived on food flown in daily by ravens, called down fire from heaven, struck a hostile army temporarily blind and raised a young boy from the dead to name but a few. He appointed Elisha as his successor as God’s prophet. Elisha knowing the miracles performed by Elijah, asked for twice the anointing Elijah carried. If you read and add up Elisha’s miracles, they double the ones carried out by Elijah.
These miraculous accounts are to encourage us to seek God for miracles ourselves. They pave the way from the OT
into the NT and the gift of the Holy Spirit given to every believer. Supernatural gifting is given to accompany the natural and inherent gifting given to us from God who loves to bless us. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are covered in Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12 & 14. We are encouraged to ’follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts’ 1 Corinthians 14:1.
A life lived in the love and power of Almighty God will not be boring but exciting, where God trusts us with some of his awesome power to defeat evil and see miraculous signs & wonders break into the world we inhabit. You will find Elijah from 1 Kings 17 onwards and Elisha from 1 Kings 19 onwards. Pay them a visit, it will be well worth it!
God bless you, Rob Pearson, Pastor
